Baldwin Locmotive Works -- June 15, 2017

Poor's Directory, 1887
An ad for the products of the Baldwin Locomotive Works.  It produced mainline locomotives and "Noiseless Steam Motors for City and Suburban Railways."  These were also known as steam dummies because the locomotives were hidden by bodies that resembled horse-drawn streetcars.  There was a theory that horses were scared by steam locomotives running in the streets.
